From Emily: On the 29th of May, I turned 11. I had a small party with a few of my friends and some of their family. We had cupcakes, pretzels and popcorn and homemade pizzas. We did some crafts and played "the human knot". In that game, the players stand in a circle and put both their hands in the middle. Everyone grabs someone's hand (except for those next to them) and then has to untangle themselves and form a regular circle. It was fun. We also played a mystery game.
I also attended a party where Anna and one of our friends and I were the only ones older than five. After snacking for awhile, we dumped confetti on the other kids. Then, we went in for cake and presents and then we came out for the pinata which they pulled open, showering us with more confetti and with candy. This picture was taken just after I was showered with confetti.
Now that it's almost the end of the semester at school, we are working on a Science, Culture and Art Fair. I am doing a project on religion called "People and the Cosmos", which is about animals and people and how we're different from one another and how we're alike.
Long-awaited joke: Reader: Where would I find the self-help section? Librarian: Well, wouldn't that rather defeat the purpose?

From Anna: At our school, each class takes turns doing presentations for the other classes. Today, on the 7th of July, it was my class' turn to do a presentation. I had to read a paper in front of the whole school! I explained the meaning of the three colors of the Chilean flag. The red stands for the blood of the famous heroes who fought for independence. The blue stands for the skies and the Pacific Ocean. The white stands for the snow covered peaks of the Andes. I was very scared at first, but when it was done, I was a little sad that it was finished because I liked speaking into the microphone. At the end, lots of people said that I read very well.
This picture of me was taken when I was at a party. In my hand, I have a little person and this person is made out of snacks from the party. I also tried to make an elephant, but at the end, it did not work. There were a lot of things that were different from parties in the U.S.A. For example: we played and threw confetti ALL OVER the house, the yard, and in the street. Lots of little kids were running down the street throwing confetti all over.
It is getting very cold now that it is winter. I first thought that it was already winter, when it got cold, but it was only fall then. It feels as though winter will never end. My Dad has been letting me light the fire sometimes. I find it very cool, but still, I have to be very careful not to burn myself. I have to be careful that Ella does not get into the matches or get too close to the fire.
Merriweather, our dog, is getting very big (and long). I like to play with Merri and also train her but sometimes she gets a little too naughty.
Joke of the Month: Knock, knock. Who's there? I don't know - you haven't opened the door yet!

About Ella: In the last few months, Ella has made her local theatrical debut through presentations for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day at her daycare. She loves being in the spotlight. While some of the other children cowered and covered their eyes, Ella spoke up to suggest changes to the program, led new songs, and made sure all could hear her sing! She clearly enjoyed herself.
As you’ll see from the photos, she enjoys dressing up and posing for the camera. She likes to tell stories, sing songs, and she’s generally joyful (except when tired or frustrated – then, watch out!)
